Wow, when an American bloke named Dean Karnazes can write a book about ultramarathon running (a good topic, and his title is "Ultramarathon Man: Confessions of an All-Night Runner and Lame Tampon Joker" [TARCHER, shame on you!] and include in his story a gutter, low-class totally anti-woman "joke" about tampons.....well, modern civilization is in trouble.

One critic writes: "Karnazes has an attitute that fails his female readers. His tampon "joke" was low class and in my eyes, and really shows the author's true nature. When a runner friend of Karnazes finishes a race towards the back of the pack, Karnazes gives him a "gift" and a card reading: "After last week's performance, I thought you'd be needing one of these."

He gave his male friend a tampon! Translation: a man who doesn't perform well in life is reduced to the lowly level of being a woman. Now, I know that men talk this way in locker rooms, but when you choose to put this in print, then that simply insults women everywhere and really shows the author's careless, sexist character. In short, I was impressed by Karnazes athleticism, but not his writing or his sexism. Real authors think before they write."

Imagine! Dean should be burned at the stake of human relations for this sick prank. His publisher should remove the offending joke from fugure editions. And Dean should apologize. That is really really sad.

Boycott this book. Do not buy it. Teach the, er, ahem, man, a lesson...
